We all know that currently we now enjoy 12GB free mobile data each month with most of the 3G plans on the market. While this will not change as long as we are on 3G network, once we switch to 4G, the data cap is reduced to 2GB per month. The telcos argument is that on 3G, most of us (90% actually) do not use more than 2GB of data each month. Hence, this article from TODAY papers accurately and logically reflects on the telcos 'scheming' or 'near-sighted' pricing strategy.

What was also not mentioned by the telco is that many people are on multi-sim card plans that whether you use your iPad or iPhone for example, it will eat into your data. What's more when the disk space of the smartphones/ tablet gets bigger (if you realized, there is no 8GB iPhone anymore), apps size grows proportionately, video quality goes on Hi-def and camera gets more megapixel (means photo size grows as well), you will need more data to upload / download / send / receive photos to your social circle.
Therefore, I think while an increase is not possible now since the 4G plans has been out already, sticking to the 12GB data cap seems to be a more logical move. Of course, I am pretty sure that the Telco will take advantage of the situation and bring back the 12GB at a higher price. What's new?
